Compass & Clogs Sharing Trails, Adventure & Outdoor Wellbeing

From the rugged peaks of the UK to the sweeping trails of Europe, Martin and Chris have spent years exploring the outdoors together and individually. Martin brings decades of navigation expertise, guiding groups through the Peak District, Lake District, Snowdonia, and the Scottish Highlands, while training teams in survival, navigation, and outdoor wellbeing. Chris has walked hundreds of miles across Europe, Northern Ireland, the UK, experiencing navigation, survival, wild camping and living lightly in nature with a rucksack , embracing long-distance adventure and mindful outdoor living.
Together, they combine their experience, skill, and passion for the outdoors to inspire and guide others helping people reconnect with nature, discover their own paths, and find calm, freedom, and adventure along the way.
Here’s a closer look at the two people who love sharing the trails with you.
Based in Romiley, near the Peak District, Martin spends most weekends exploring rugged landscapes, either solo, with friends, or Max, his Labrador. From Bleaklow and Ladybower Reservoirs to Kinder Scout and Edale starting point of the Pennine Way he seeks out interesting, challenging, and memorable adventures across the Peaks. He also enjoys hiking and visiting across Europe, discovering new trails, mountains, and natural landscapes that challenge and inspire him.
With decades of experience in navigation, survival, and outdoor leadership, Martin has guided countless groups and trained outdoors enthusiasts, including Ordnance Survey Champions, through Ultimate Navigation School. He is also a Gold-level Eryri Ambassador, deepening his knowledge of Snowdonia’s trails and natural beauty.
Martin’s passion lies in discovering new routes, testing outdoor gear, and enjoying the peace of nature. When not on the trails, he enjoys Jelly Babies, a good pint of Guinness, red wine, single malt, and any opportunity to be outdoors.
Based in the Netherlands, Chris is an experienced long-distance hiker and adventure enthusiast, exploring mountains across Europe, including Slovakia’s High Tatras, as well as long-distance walks in the UK, Europe and the Netherlands. He enjoys pushing limits on challenges like Kennedy marches and 100km walks.
Chris has built a strong foundation in navigation, survival, winter skills, mountain skills, and outdoor safety, applying this knowledge across both UK and European trails. When in the UK, he joins Martin on Hikes and adventures in Wales, Scotland, England and trips in Europe, seeking the best hikes and routes for self-discovery and challenge.
Chris believes that getting outside is the start of every great adventure, offering both physical and mental wellbeing. When not on the trails, he enjoys a good pint of Guinness and a single malt, sharing stories of adventures, and inspiring others to step onto the trails with confidence.
